My Favorite Podcasts This Fall

It's finally Fall! Do you know what that means?

It means that finally, finally, it is cool enough for me to go on walks.  I cannot stand being outside for long periods of time in anything above 80 degree heat.  Now, all of my worries are washed away like the fallen leaves in rainy ol' Pittsburgh.  Fear not though, as the temperature decreases, my afternoon
walks significantly increase.  I try to take walks when the weather is nice and I have a break between classes, but I don't want to listen to the... less than calming sounds of Pittsburgh.  For this reason, I have been getting more and more into podcasts! Don't worry though, showtunes still take up a lot of my Spotify page.

Podcasts, if you haven't heard of them, are basically like spoken blogs and discussions about given topics posted on the webs.  Some of my readers may refer to this as *radio*, a long forgotten art form.  With that little insight into my age, lets get into my top 5 podcasts.  This is countdown style so my favorite is number 1.

5.  Armchair Expert

This one may be number 5 but that is out of like, hundreds and hundreds that Spotify has to listen to!  Armchair Expert is hosted by Dax Shepard, of Parenthood and Bless This Mess fame.  He's also married to Kristen Bell (this is important as they're one of my favorite celebrity couples).  Each week, he sits down with someone famous, like actually famous, I promise you will know their names, and discusses recent events in their lives and in the world.  He doesn't shy away from his opinion and holds actually intellectual talks with said celebrities.  It is an in-depth look at the people you see all over media, and lets you feel like you get to know them.

4. Very Really Good

I'm not even going to lie, this podcast is kind of stupid but in the best, "I just want to listen to someone talk about random topics and toss in more than a few jokes," kind of way. Hosted by Youtuber and Comedian, Kurtis Conner, this podcast prides itself on its ability to make something of nothing.  Kurtis is like that awkward kid that also happens to be the funniest person you know.  His podcast reflects that very well.

3. My Dad Wrote A Porno

Don't click away yet!  I promise this is worth your time!  Is this the cleanest podcast in the world?  No.  Then again, where would the fun in life be if you didn't occasionally curl up with your Airpods, earbuds, what have you, and listen to some guy read out a secret porno that his dad wrote? It's hilariously disturbing and their interjections only add to the experience.  Try it out!

2. Actor Aesthetic

This one is, admittedly, biased.  It is hosted by Maggie Bera, an actual, acting actor.  Not only am I into acting, I sometimes have the attention span of a frog.  That's not factual do not look up the attention span of a frog I'm just trying to say that these are shorter podcasts.  Back to the message! I do enjoy acting and could see myself doing it as long as I possibly can.  Actor Aesthetic touches upon many topics, like audition etiquette, comparison, how to stay healthy, really anything an actor on stage or screen could need.  I have just started listening to this one, but it is already an emerging favorite.

1. My Favorite Murder

Ahhhhh yes, a cult favorite, maybe even literally.  I have been listening to this podcast, hosted by Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark, for nearly a year and a half now, and it is my absolute favorite.  This podcast, true to its name, focuses on true crime and creepy real-life happenings.  Each week they both Karen and Georgia pick a murder or true crime case and go into detail on it.  They interject the intense stories they are telling with some truly spectacular humor and personal anecdotes.  Don't want to listen to an hour long horror fest? That's ok! They also release mini episodes each week where listeners and fans send in their own "hometown" stories.  The mini episodes are honestly my favorite.  This is a relatively niche podcast, but it is widely popular for a reason.

Sorry about the formatting I wrote this in the midst of studying for, ironically, a web page design midterm.  I am tired.

With love,
Sam
